Darning is a traditional mending technique used to create small woven patches to cover and repair damaged knit clothing. When darning the edges of cuffs or hems we need to think about the best ways to reinforce the area whilst also maintaining the original shape of the knitwear. This workshop will talk through the tips and tricks needed to make this process as easy as possible.

The details:

This 2 hour live workshop will show you how to get started with darning the worn out edges of jumper cuffs using woven darning. I will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the process as we mend along together. Please note I am based in the UK so times listed are shown in UK BST time.

Suitable for confident beginners and sewing enthusiasts alike, we can also discuss the best ways to go about darning particular cuffs depending on the fabric weight and extent of damage.

For the workshop you will need:

• worn out jumper cuffs - chunkier weight knits are best here rather than fine sweatshirt materials and smaller damage is best to start with
 a darning needle
thread of a similar weight to your clothing (embroidery thread, sashiko thread or darning wools all work well)
 scissors
a water bottle, jam jar or a darning disc - the bottle/jar shape will help to keep the tension and shape of your cuff as we darn

On the day:

This workshop will take place on Google Meet and all times listed are for the UK (BST) so please bear this in mind if you are joining from elsewhere.

Please note that online workshops cannot be refunded unless requested more than 48 hours ahead of the workshop date.
