I’m over the moon to be running an online darning workshop with Fashion Revolution this April as part of their ‘Mend in public day’ during Fashion Revolution Week.
Set up by Carry Somers and Orsola De Castro in 2013, Fashion Revolution has done incredible things to highlight, educate and campaign for a fairer fashion industry. Fashion Revolution were one of the first organisations that I learnt of (and from!) and I remember back in the early days of Instagram posting photos of my outfit with every piece turned inside out - a campaign they ran as a reminder for us to ask ‘who made my clothes?’. Do you remember this?!
As part of Fashion Revolution Week they have also organised a ‘Mend in public day’ which aims to raise awareness in areas all over the word and I’ll be running an online two hour introduction to plain weave darning workshop. Take a look at their website to see if there’s somewhere locally for you to get involved, but if you’d like to attend an online workshop instead, that’s where I come in!
You are more than welcome to attend the workshop just to watch me darn, or you can of course have a well worn garment with you that’s in need of repair. If you’re just starting out with darning I’d recommend something with a small hole to start with, or even a tea towel or some scrap fabric to practice on.
It will be amazing to see how many people we can bring together from different locations for this!
Ticket prices have been scaled to accommodate your needs and range from £8-£12; please pay it forward if you’re able to. I’ll be donating 50% of the ticket sales directly to Fashion Revolution after the event and I’m so happy to be able to work with them to raise money for the people in the fashion industry that need it.
