How to use a darning loom | Online workshop | Wednesday 2nd April | 6pm - 8pm

The details:

Darning looms have made a comeback in the world of visible mending and the original Speedweve darning loom has been replicated all over the world. It's a nifty gadget that isn't essential for darning, but is very enjoyable to use once you know how!

This 2 hour live workshop will show you how to get started with darning using a darning loom. I will be using a Speedweve loom for this workshop but you can bring along whichever version/replica you have. If you're unsure if the loom you have will be suitable then please ask!

I will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the process as we mend along together, from creating even warp threads to securing the loops at the top of the darn. Please note I am based in the UK so times listed are shown in UK GMT time.

Suitable for beginners and sewing enthusiasts alike, we can also discuss the best ways to go about darning particular clothes using these mini looms and where they are best suited.

For the workshop you will need:

• a holey sock / jumper / item of clothing (a small hole is best to start with, and nothing too chunky in weight)
• ...or a piece of fabric to practice on if you'd prefer!
• a mini darning loom; Speedweve or similar
• a darning needle
• thread of a similar weight to your clothing (embroidery thread, sashiko thread or darning wools all work well)
• scissors
