Introduction to honeycomb and scotch darning | Online workshop | Thursday 13th March | 6pm - 8pm
The details:
This 2 hour live workshop will show you how to get started with honeycomb and scotch darning - great techniques for visibly mending your clothes in a colourful and creative way. Please note I am based in the UK so times listed are shown in UK GMT time.
Both techniques use the foundation of blanket stitches to either darn in circles or rows and are some of my favourite to do; honeycomb darning is perfect for worn thin areas of fabric and looks great from both sides, and scotch darning is super strong and great for elbows and high stress areas on your clothing.
I will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the processes as we mend along together.
Suitable for beginners and sewing enthusiasts alike, we can also discuss the best ways to go about darning particular clothes using these different techniques.
For the workshop you will need:
• a worn thin or holey sock / jumper / item of clothing (a small hole is best to start with)
• ...or a piece of fabric to practice on if you'd prefer!
• a darning needle
• thread of a similar weight to your clothing (embroidery thread, sashiko thread or darning wools all work well)
• scissors
• a darning mushroom / disc (or something similar eg. a jam jar lid, pebble, orange, lightbulb).
On the day:
This workshop will take place on Google Meet and all times listed are for the UK (GMT) so please bear this in mind if you are joining from elsewhere.
Please note that online workshops cannot be refunded unless requested more than 48 hours ahead of the workshop date.
