When it comes to mending denim and woven fabrics, sashiko is a brilliant technique to use. There are endless varieties of beautiful designs rich in Japanese history and if you want to learn more about the designs and their meanings then I’d highly recommend Keiko & Atsushi of A Sashiko Story who are sashiko artisans and generous educators; their videos are fantastic.
To help me when I was first starting to practice these patterns, I designed these acrylic stitching templates to help make the process of transferring stitch lines to clothing as easy as possible.
The clear acrylic is perfect for planning out your design on your clothing before you start sewing, and the handy ruler and centre notches make for easy measuring and pattern placement.
Details:
• The templates measure 14.5cm x 14.5cm • The lines are spaced 1cm apart • The small interlocking circles measure 2.7cm • The large interlocking circles measure 3.7cm • Ruler etching to the bottom of the template and centre notches to the top and sides • Made from 2mm clear acrylic • Cut locally in Frome, Somerset
Buying these as a set of 3 saves you £1.75, but you can also purchase the individual templates HERE.
This course was a joy! Skye’s patient instruction made very seemingly complex repairs clear, and the documentation she provided is a great resource. Over too soon 🙂
I thought the whole format was great - really engaging and supportive. Lovely to see other people's work via the What'sApp group as an inspiration to keep persevering.
I love the encouragement from Skye and other menders. Felt very included and supported!
